In order for Sulforaphane Glucosinolate to be absorbed, the human body needs to first convert Sulforaphane Glucosinolate into free Sulforaphane. For this conversion to take place, a specific enzyme is required called Myrosinase. Myrosinase, is typically provided by nature inside Broccoli together with Sulforaphane Glucosinolate. However, food processing (including boiling) degrades most of the Myrosinase enzyme found in Broccoli. As a result, there is very little Sulforaphane that will finally reach the blood stream.
According to clinical trials without the enzyme Myrosinase, only 10% of Sulforaphane Glucosinolate is converted into free Sulforaphane and absorbed. The rest is excreted. This small conversion is facilitated by gut bacteria, and therefore it varies from human to human.
When Sulforaphane Glucosinolate is delivered at the same time with the Myrosinase enzyme, a higher conversion of Sulforaphane Glucosinolate is achieved. Clinical trials estimate that conversion to about 40%, again with variations from human to human. Therefore, only part of Sulforaphane Glucosinolate can be converted into free Sulforaphane, known for many of its health benefits. Furthermore, it is important to note that when Sulforaphane Glucosinolate is converted (broken down) into free Sulforaphane, known for many of its health benefits.
At MCS Formulas, each capsule of our Broccoli ultra contains 15 mg free Sulforaphane, and each daily serving based on two capsules contains 30mg free Sulforaphane.
